Anxiety Attack Symptom Awareness

Published at 8:55 am under Anxiety Center

The first step in overcoming anxiety is learning more about anxiety attack symptom information. One of the first things that should be understood regarding the symptoms to anxiety is that they can vary for each person. Regardless of how the symptoms of panic manifest; however, there are six major systems of the body which are affected.

Cardiovascular

The cardiovascular system can be one of the first systems affected by anxiety. As you begin to feel anxious your blood pressure increases; which then causes your heartbeat to increase. Blood vessels in the arms and the legs may then become restricted as the vessels that surround the skeletal muscles begin to dilate. All of this can result in symptoms such as palpitations, a rapid heartbeat, as well as headaches and tingling in the arms and legs.

Gastrointestinal

Anxiety also affects the gastrointestinal system. You may have noticed that when you experience an anxiety attack one of the symptoms you also experience is dry mouth. This is because salivary secretions become reduced as changes take place in the esophagus, stomach and intestines. You may find it difficult to swallow or feel as though you have butterflies in your stomach. The colon can also become inflamed, resulting in symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea and cramping pains in the upper portion of the stomach.

Respiratory

Other common symptoms associated with anxiety attacks include hyperventilation. This occurs when levels of carbon dioxide are reduced in the blood. You may also feel a pins and needles sensation as a result.

Urinary and Sexual

Although symptoms tend to vary among people, some may also experience symptoms such as the need to urinate frequently. This occurs as a result of changes in the genitourinary system. Besides frequent urination; however, it can also cause other profound effects including sexual dysfunction.

Muscular

Many people also experience muscle tenseness in relation of anxiety. It may also be accompanied by other symptoms related to the musculoskeletal system such as aches and pains and even involuntary trembling of the body.

The combination of these symptoms can further result in the ability to concentrate, difficulty sleeping and fatigue.

While anxiety is a normal part of life, when an individual experiences the symptoms mentioned above and also experiences what can be described as excessive worry, this can be an indication he or she suffers from generalized anxiety disorder.

Frequently panic disorder and anxiety disorder are confused with one another; however, they are much different, even though some of the symptoms can overlap.

The biggest distinction between the two is that individuals with panic disorder are typically more concerned with the fear of whatever catastrophe or loss of control haunts them. Persons with anxiety disorder; however, are generally more worried about how they will interact with others. For example, they might fear they will fail at work or that others wont accept them.

The good news is that while the symptoms of anxiety disorder can certainly be disturbing there are a variety of natural treatment methods that are successful in treating these symptoms. Cognitive behavioral therapies in particular have proven to work well in treating these anxiety attack symptom problems.
