How Do Vitamins Help Make Us Healthier?

Vitamins have a lot to do with your health. Your body needs certain vitamins and minerals that we get from certain foods every day to keep us alive and healthy. If we do not get a certain amount of these vitamins and minerals we will become susceptible to diseases and viruses. Many of the foods we eat today do not contain enough of these vitamins in them because either they don\’t have the vitamins in them to begin with or in the manufacturing process the vitamins and minerals are destroyed or they have very few left in them.

Most of the population today are not getting enough of the necessary vitamins and minerals they need to have a healthy body. Vitamins balance the system and if the system isn\’t getting the necessary vitamins and minerals it needs to operate, something is going to go wrong. When this happens, the body is weakened and you are more likely to get the flu or other viruses that are going around. Colds, viruses, pneumonia and other ailments weaken parts of the body and cause other, more serious problems.

In order to help ourselves stay healthy, we need to take supplemental vitamins and minerals to insure that we are getting the daily amount needed to stay healthy. The healthy body fights off illnesses and there is a good chance you will not get the flu or if you do it may just be a mild case. Taking daily vitamins can give you the assurance that your body is getting its daily dosage of vitamins and minerals it needs to stay healthy.

If the body is healthy its immune system will help ward off viruses and other diseases. With all of the new flu viruses going around we need to do all we can to keep from spreading them and if taking a vitamin a day will maybe help keep us from getting the flu, it is well worth the few dollars the vitamins cost. These natural vitamins and minerals may save us hundreds of dollars in medical bills if we can ward off the virus. Doctor bills and prescription drugs are very expensive.

Not to mention the misery and danger we will go through if we contract any virus. The medical scientific world has come a long way in their discoveries but the simple natural vitamins and minerals taken from natural plants can make a big difference in our health too. For a few bucks a month, you can feel better, be more active and know that your body is not full of synthetics and stimulants. You can possibly save those trips to the doctor because when the flu is going around, you are going to work. Of course there are other precautions you can take too but the natural vitamins and minerals will fight for you from the inside out.

AP was used in traditional Asian medicine to treat fever, laryngitis, pneumonia, respiratory infections, tonsillitis, diarrhea, ulcers, herpes, tuberculosis and a long list of other medical conditions. Scientific studies show that AP contains pain killers, fever reducers and components that prevent and break up blood clots as well as reduce blood sugar levels. So, its historical use can be supported by scientific fact.

There is also scientific evidence supporting its recommendation as a natural immune system builder. It stimulates antibodies and white blood cells to find and destroy invaders. Extensive chemical studies have shown that AP can be effective for increasing your immune system naturally, because of antiviral, vermicidal, and antibacterial components. It is rare to find a single plant, which contains all three of these. Clinical studies indicate that people who take AP are less likely to develop colds and flu bugs and recover more quickly if they do. It is also believed to be a safe natural immune system builder. Animal studies have shown that it is non-toxic. It should however be avoided by pregnant women or those who wish to become pregnant, since it was used historically as a contraceptive. The Importance of Trace Minerals

Why do we need minerals?

Minerals are inorganic substances found in animals and plants, and we need to have a steady supply. Some examples are calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, and zinc. Most people accept that vitamins are necessary for good health, but so are minerals. Our bodies cannot make use of vitamins without numerous minerals. Green Tea and The "Asian Paradox"

Of all the controversial claims about green teas health benefits, the one that draws the most scepticism is the claim that it could be a cure for cancer. While it is almost certainly not a cure, however, many studies appear to show that lifelong green tea drinking does in fact reduce the risk of cancer in later life.

The biggest piece of evidence in support of this theory is known as the Asian paradox. The Asian paradox, according to researchers at Yale, is that Asia has very high levels of cigarette smoking, yet lower cancer rates than Europe or America. The researchers believe that the difference between the places lies in the Asians consumption of large amounts of green tea (over a litre a day on average).

Other studies have supported this view: one study comparing elderly Japanese people who drank green tea with ones who didnt found that the green tea drinkers tended to live a few years longer. Studies at Murcia University in Spain found that a chemical in green tea called EGCG is very similar to the cancer drug methotrexate, in that it appears to kill cancer cells in the same way. This is some of the most encouraging research yet, as methotrexate is a drug with many unpleasant side effects, and replacing it with green tea could work very well.

However, the unfortunate counterpoint to all this is that very large quantities of green tea have actually been found to cause cancer in lab rats, suggesting that too much green tea can be worse for you than none at all perhaps a similar effect to the one red wine has. The state of the research overall is inconclusive, as few drug companies are interested in funding studies into something that is seen as alternative medicine, the testing is left to interested but under-funded universities. Hopefully, over the next few decades, there will be more interest in investigating the health benefits of green tea, and we will finally get our answer.

The Truth About Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin disease that occurs when cells in the outer layer of skin reproduce faster than normal and pile up on the skin\’s surface. This produces scaling, itchiness and irritation of the skin. Psoriasis is non-contagious.

Currently in the United States almost 5 million people are affected by this disease. It occurs in all age groups and about equally in men and women.

When psoriasis develops, thick patches of skin become red with silvery scales. Often the skin at the joints cracks making outbreak very painful. Psoriasis most often occurs on the knees, lower back, soles of the feet, scalp, elbows, face and palm.

There have been huge strides in understanding what causes psoriasis. Recently, a team from the University of Michigan looked for the gene — called PSORS1 — in more than 2,700 people from 678 families in which at least one family member had psoriasis. According to the researchers, PSORS1 is the first genetic determinant of psoriasis to be definitively identified in a large clinical trial. The finding may help in the development of new, more effective treatments for the disfiguring inflammatory skin disease.

Some other research has found that psoriasis may be a disorder of the immune system. In a normal immune system a type of white blood cell, called a T cell is produced, that normally helps protect the body against infection and disease. Top Scientists have concluded that an abnormal immune system produces too many T cells in the skin. These excess T cells trigger the inflammation and excessive skin cell reproduction seen in people who suffer with psoriasis.

Doctors usually diagnose psoriasis after a careful examination of the skin. However, diagnosis may be difficult because psoriasis often looks like other skin diseases. A pathologist may assist with diagnosis by examining a small skin sample under a microscope.

For those people who have a suppressed immune system, the symptoms of psoriasis can be extremely severe.

Dietary change can help with psoriasis, avoid alcohol, gluten which is found in wheat, barley and rye, avoid foods that are high in saturated fats, avoid red meats, dairy products, eggs, cheese and sugar and if you are a smoker, then it is best to quit.

Topical applications to the affected areas with aloe vera gel, Dead Sea mineral salts or mud, Zambesia Botanica, mahonia ointment and gotu kola can all improve psoriasis.

The Weak Immune System & Supplements for Immune System Support

Many diseases and conditions are related to a weak immune system. Serious complications arising from infection with the influenza virus occur most frequently in those who have a weak immune system; the very young and the elderly. It is believed that there are many natural, botanical and herbal products that provide immune system support. Some of these may be familiar, while others are more exotic.

Chronic stress may lead to a weak immune system. Improper diet may lead to a weak immune system. While some things are uncontrollable, such as age or chronic illness, other factors that may lead to a weak immune system are controllable. Proper diet and good nutrition are very important for immune system support. While those who live in impoverished areas may not be able to get proper nutrition, most people who live in the United States have no real reason for poor diet. But, fast paced lifestyles and fast food often lead to inadequate nutrition and inadequate immune system support. It is sometimes necessary to take a daily multi-vitamin. Even the Food and Drug Administration which rarely has anything to say about health supplements advises that everyone can benefit from a daily multi-vitamin. It may also be advantageous to use health supplements that provide immune system support. According to a recent survey in Canada, among people who normally take health supplements, those that provide immune system support are taken most commonly.

Numerous studies have shown that people who are under chronic stress have lower white blood cell counts and a weak immune system overall. Chronic stress is another of those things that should be avoidable. But, depending on the person, it may not be that easy. A high stress job may be rewarding in other ways. Long-term financial problems may not be quickly resolvable. Leaving a bad relationship may not be possible. Any of these things can lead to chronic stress, which in turn leads to a weak immune system. People who suffer from chronic stress may benefit from a natural product that provides immune system support.

People who work with the public or have children in school are likely to be exposed to viruses, bacteria and germs in general on a daily basis. Even if one does not have a particularly weak immune system, this constant exposure makes the cold and flu season particularly difficult to get through. These supplements may reduce recovery time, when someone catches a bug, and may actually prevent symptoms from appearing at all.

But, studies have shown that echinacea can be toxic to the liver if taken for several months at a time. A better choice is probably Andrographis Paniculata (AP). AP is sometimes referred to as Indian Echinacea, but it is actually a completely different plant and is only similar in that it provides immune system support. AP has been shown in scientific and clinical studies to reduce colds, sick days and hospitalizations from common viruses, but is not believed to have any unwanted side effects. Even when fed large doses, animals showed no liver, kidney or toxicity of any kind. It is not possible to avoid all of the situations that may lead to infection or a weak immune system, but it is possible to practice good health habits, get plenty of rest, regular exercise, take a multi-vitamin and use a health supplement to provide immune system support.

There is also diet supplements specifically designed for healthy hair. These usually come in the form of a tablet, and can be found in any health food store. Still not impressed?
