Published at 4:03 am under Natural Skin Care

Skin is made up of many layers of epithelial tissue and it protects the internal organs and muscles. The skin is the largest organ of the integument system. There are many skin types. The skin types range from oily, combination, dry, sensitive and sun damaged. The dry skin feels tight especially after cleansing. There is a tendency toward wrinkles and developing them. There are also the flaking and the development of red patches. There is dead skin buildup and the skin may appear ashen or dull from the accumulation of dead skin.

Finding your skin type is very easy. You can do a simple test all by yourself to find out. Wash your face. Pat it dry. Take a few pieces of rice paper or lens-cleaning tissue paper and put it on different spots on your face and press it .The paper will stick, become translucent, and pick up oily spots. This means that your skin is oily. If the paper does not become translucent or pick up oily spots the skin type you have is dry.

Dry skin may be a result of various reasons or by a combination of them - dry climate, winter weather, illness, exposure to sunlight, etc. The skin loses moisture and it may crack or peel. The skin may become irritated and inflamed. There may be experience of inflammation on the skin. The bathing frequently especially with soaps can lead to dry skin. The remedy for dry skin is to bathe in warm water with as little soap as possible.

The application of moisture is the best remedy for dry skin. The market provides many choices for moisturizers. There are two types of moisturizers. There are those that contain natural skin moisture. The best places to find these moisturizers are the grocery shops and beauty shops. There is a second type of moisturizer, which helps your skin to absorb moisture from the environment. These types of moisturizers are recommended for use in winter since the general weather is dry and dry skin is more concern in such climates. The skin also tends to lose moisture when you use the water that is too hot or cold. The right time to use moisturizer is after a shower. The moisturizer should be applied if the skin is moist

The baths or showers should be kept short. Using warm water is highly recommended. A decrease in the use of soaps and limiting it to use only on the face, armpits and genitals will help stem moisture loss. The skin and body moisture has to be increased by the daily use of bath oils and moisture. The moisturizers help immensely in dry skin. You can use a humidifier if the air is dry. The drying of the skin should be thorough but gentle. Cool compresses can be used in itchy areas.

A doctor should be consulted, if the dryness and itchiness is preventing you from sleeping or resting as it could be psoriasis. In cases of inflammation, the use of cortisone creams and lotions is recommended.
