Lucky Number Slevin Movie Review

What happens when two conflicting crime chiefs lived opposite each others penthouse? You get The Boss, The Rabbi and a piece of twisted, masterminding plot.

The movie Lucky Number Slevin is a crime thriller written by Jason Smilovic and directed by Paul McGuigan that focuses on the vengeance of Slevin Kelevra, played by Josh Hartnett.

Slevins whole family was killed when he was a small kid, when his father placed a huge bet on what he thought was an insider tip in a horseracing event. The gangsters financing the bookie decided to eliminate all of those involved in the fixed race to solidify their reputation in the business. However, the assassin Goodkat, played by Bruce Willis, spared Slevins life.

Goodkat then raised Slevin as his own child and until the appropriate time comes, launched their slick revenge plot against the gangsters that killed his family, The Boss (Morgan Freeman) and his ex-partner, The Rabbi (Ben Kingsley).

Lucky Number Slevins style and violence was compared to the works of Quentin Tarantino. With such commanding presence by profound actors such as Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley, it is hard to find faults with this move.

In fact, I find it gratifying to see criminal bosses trying to cancel each other out. In this case, The Boss is planning an assassination of The Rabbis son in retaliation to the murder of his own son.

Little did they know that Slevin and Goodkat are the ones who are masterminding the whole revenge plot.\r Quirky performance by sexy actress Lucy Liu as Lindsey also added colors to this seemingly dark film about betrayal, vengeance and a classic case of insiders tip gone terribly wrong.

The film Lucky Number Slevin was also noted to bear certain similarities with Kurosawas Yujimbo where a samurai plays two rival criminals against each other.

Lucky Number Slevin is indeed a cleverly written movie that is definitely worth the buy.
