Read this article to Overpower Your Depressive Thoughts which Induce Anxiety!

I would like to share a story of my friend whose name will be changed for the sake of privacy. Sally was my best friend since my kindergarten days; our mothers were friends, so we used to meet each other frequently outside the school. She was a daughter of single parent, and in spite of all the love her mother bestowed on her to cover up for her loss, she grew up as a morose, she found less reasons to be happy.

She was depressed and suffering from anxiety, because the fear of not being loved always haunted her. I understood her problem and did my best to cope with her whims and manifested my love in spite of all heart-wrenching statements I received from her end when she was upset. I did that because I knew I belong to the circle which is close to her heart and there was only one person in that circle other than me, it was her mother. Aunt Jane, her mother devoted all her life to Sally, to make her feel secured and happy.

I do not know what motivated me to pursue my career in psychology, may be it was my concern for Sally; I left her for two years for studying psychology. When I came back I noticed that I could really help her better than I did earlier. Trust is the main factor even in a relationship of a doctor and a patient. Since I was her friend she trusted me blindly and followed whatever instructions I gave her. My first experience was Sally and this experience continues to help me even today.

Would you believe, today Sally is running a ski-diving school and is known in the society as an ace ski-diver! It feels great to see her smiling and active all the time. If she could combat depression and anxiety disorder, why cant others? She fills me with enthusiasm and hope.

There are certain advices I would like offer to those who are suffering from depression and anxiety;

1. Try to offset those negative thoughts, you can do it by involving yourself forcefully to a fun activity like watching a sitcom or reading hilarious comics. You have to practice it whenever you feel depressed. These things will release the chemicals in your brain which are responsible for feeling good.

2. Make friends with fun-loving people; avoid those who are depressed like you are.

3. Take a few moments to write a journal. Write down the negative thoughts and fears, this way you will be able to release your emotions and would be relaxed.

4. Speak out loudly and make affirmations to yourself. They program your subconscious mind to make it true that you have already told it to be true. Speak out: I love myself and deserve to be loved by others; I deserve to be happy and so I will remain happy; I am in control of my mood and no negative thought can ruin my happiness.

As I have already said, depression and anxiety is not untreatable, you can get back the normal pace of your life. You just need to come out of that cocoon and seek help; you cannot do it until you love yourself. Look around; there will be at least one person who needs you. Are you not lucky that someone needs you and is looking forward to you for his happiness? Be happy to make that person happy. There can not be a more deserving reason to be happy in this world!
