Reducing Anxiety With Meditation

Published at 4:05 pm under Anxiety Center

There are a lot of people out there who always turn to medicines and herbal remedies to relief the overwhelming feelings of anxiety. While this is one of the ways to deal with anxiety but it is not necessary the best way.

While I believe that these things can be helpful at times, I also think that consuming too much of these might bring more harm than good in the long run. There are a few less conventional methods but effective ways of reducing anxiety and one of them will be meditation. Many people may think that meditation is a foreign concept and there are some who believe that meditation is something that must be learned and studied for a long period of time before it can be mastered. The truth is, meditation is just a method of calming the body and mind. The key is to focus in practicing relaxation techniques.

Anyone can meditate, and the benefits of meditation can have an effect on anxiety in a very short time. If you are meditating, it is best to look for a quiet and undisturbed setting, and a comfortable place for you to sit or lie down. You can turn on some soothing relaxing music such as the sound of ocean waves, birds chirping, raining, sea gulls, or simply meditate in complete quiet and peaceful environment. The key to effective meditation is finding what works best for you.

After finding the right preference of settings or the most suitable atmosphere for meditation, you will then need to set aside time to practice it daily. Now just close your eyes and take several deep, slow breaths. Try to allow your body and mind to relax as much as possible. This is what I always do, when I meditate, I will imagine myself in a pleasant, peaceful place such as by the ocean or in a meadow. Now you can do this too, just picture yourself in the place of your choice by using as much detail as possible. Focus and your mind will stop racing, all your anxieties and stressful thoughts will be replaced by relaxing images. Relax, breathe in and breathe out slowly and effortlessly. Let your thoughts wander but try to picture yourself in a peaceful and relaxing environment. The more you practice, the better you will become at reducing your anxiety. Think anxiety as a bad habit rather than a syndrome. And in order to break this bad habit, it must be replaced by a better one.

Once you have acquired the habit of relaxation by meditating, it will definitely reduce your anxiety in any situation. Remember, practice makes perfect and good luck!
