Jewelry designs now are wonderfully diverse and creative. From dainty feminine to bold and assertive, jewelry designs have switched up the volume. Whether you choose Swarovski crystals or hammered silver and turquoise, well-designed art jewelry is intriguing. It is quite fun to go to art fairs and scope out the newest art jewelry, but you can also create something new, different and distinctly feminine by looking through your own jewelry box. Looking at your jewelry with fresh eyes may turn up pieces you had forgotten and give you a chance to design something new for yourself.

Layered Necklaces

Consider layering your necklaces too. The layered look in jewelry adds a beautiful touch to your appearance. Many jewelry designers have created pieces of jewelry that already incorporate the layered look with multi-strands and twisted torsades. You can put together your own expressive form of this look. Try putting unexpected elements together. You can add a dash of bold color with other more earthy tones. Add a touch of sparkle and light with natural materials such as wood or shell pieces. A long necklace, wrapped in different ways, can create an array of many different looks. You might want to add a brooch or pin as a temporary pendant to fill in gaps between strands.

Stacked Bracelets

Try playing with your bracelets first. You can create a layered look in more than one way. Several bracelets with complementary colors, materials or themes can be worn together. You can create a luxe look by layering chain bracelets with teardrop crystals or gemstones. Orbe daring and stack bangles or single strand bracelets from your wrist to mid-forearm. And of course, you can always take a beaded necklace and wrap it around your wrist for a rich, feminine look too.

Jewelry Themes

When designing new art jewelry pieces, it is helpful to get a theme in mind. For instance, some international postage stamps that were cased in sterling silver could suggest themes such as doves, angels, and ships. Older Mother of Pearl, ivory, turquoise and silver chain necklaces that might be a bit boring could be updated with a "Sands of Time" theme. Add some verdigris copper disks and you could create a new collection wonderfully beachy necklaces that tell a story too.

You can create "themed" jewelry by laying out pieces on a clean surface. Put together unexpected combinations with a common theme. They will tell a new story...about you!
